How to Improve Image Results

Image Generation

Overview

Refine your shot description to get better AI-generated images.

Best Practices

  • Write a more detailed shot description.

  • Mention key props or environment details.

Example

Instead of:

Sally stands by the pool.

Try:

Sally is standing by the edge of a pool, frame right.

A note on precision: Image generation sometimes produces the wrong result even with detailed shot descriptions. Occasionally, it also gets stuck in a loop. The technology isn't quite there yet. The intent of image generation in ShotKraft is to be representational. For 100% accurate storyboards, we strongly encourage you to hire a real human storyboard artist — or follow the tips below to get the best generated images you can.

More tips

  • Avoid vague emotional descriptions ("she looks sad") — the AI responds better to physical and spatial descriptions.

  • Include scene context: "dimly lit warehouse" gives better results than just "warehouse".

  • Mention camera position relative to subject: "shooting up at", "over the shoulder", "from behind" all meaningfully affect output.

Getting Character Appearances Right

If a character doesn't look the way you imagined, here's the most effective fix:

  1. Delete all existing images for that character.

  2. Find the first shot in your project where the character appears.

  3. Add a physical description directly in the shot description field. For example, change Maria enters the room to Maria, 30-year-old brunette, enters the room.

  4. Regenerate — the physical description will anchor the character's look for subsequent shots.

Tip: You can also upload a reference photo of the character (ideally in a close-up shot) to help guide the AI. After uploading, delete any existing images for that character and regenerate.
