How ShotKraft Breaks Your Script into Scenes

Getting Started Shotlisting

A script breakdown starts by splitting the screenplay into scenes. ShotKraft does this step automatically when you upload your PDF.

Overview

After uploading your PDF, ShotKraft automatically detects scenes and organizes them in the left panel.

What you'll see

  • Left panel: List of scenes

    • You can view the script by clicking the Expand button on your active scene

  • Right panel: Generated shotlist for the selected scene

How scene detection works

ShotKraft identifies scenes by looking for sluglines that begin with INT. or EXT. — the standard screenplay format for scene headers. Each slugline becomes a new scene in the left panel.

If a scene header doesn't follow this format (e.g. SCENE 3 — KITCHEN — DAY with no INT/EXT), ShotKraft may merge it with the previous scene.

Tips

Start with Scene 1 and move sequentially to maintain flow.

Troubleshooting

If scenes are missing or merged, see: Some of My Scenes are Missing — What Happened?
